Quote of the Day

This city really is made up of renters. But we’re not part of the conversation; we don’t get included

Thank you for your interest in The Direct Transfer Daily!

We are an old school news clipping service re-imagined for the digital age. You probably don’t have four hours a day to go through all the news that’s available on the topic of cities…so we’ll do it for you.

Every day we comb through over 1,500 articles and blog posts to bring you the most interesting news, blogs, and research about cities and urban policy.

The Direct Transfer Daily Premium includes our front page articles, Quote of the Day, Most Read from the day before, and recommended reads for those on a time crunch.

Praise for The Direct Transfer Daily

…the first thing I read every morning is the newsletter to see what’s been out there. It’s great to have an aggregator that pulls everything together so nicely.
Joe Cortright, City Observatory
I think that the email newsletter that you do every morning is the best one that I get, and I get a lot of them.
Mary Newsom, The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute

What other readers are saying…

“Provides links to lots of stories I wouldn’t see, which I then use in my own articles on transportation and urbanism.”

“It saves me time by compiling a list of relevant articles to help jumpstart my day. As a transportation professional in the public sector, I struggle to find time to read as much as I want. The digest helps target my reading to further my professional development and intellectual curiosity.”

“There are some interesting design, urban, city articles that do not come up on the other feeds.”

“As the main source of my daily transportation news, I think it is extremely valuable. It provides insight to the issues and advances other agencies are facing.”

“I am pretty busy and don’t have time to comb twitter or every blog for a fresh take on transportation. So, if I am going to take time away from work to relax and check up on what is going on in the transportation world outside my office, I’m going to Jeff’s list first. And not everybody else in the office is on it, so I feel comfortable sharing stuff with peers and superiors knowing that it’s not “old news” or “fluff.”

“It offers a really wide range of city/transportation issues, helping me connect the dots between different topics and seeing how they relate to my work in bike/ped research.”

“Definitely valuable. It brings insight as to what other places are doing and puts the idea on my radar.”

A Word About the Change to Subscriptions

First of all, I want to thank you all for reading and supporting The Direct Transfer Daily (and its various incarnations…) for almost 10 years. I also want to give a big shout out to those of you that responded and donated to Patreon to help fund the service.

As you may or may not know, each day I go through over 1,500 news articles and blog posts related to cities so I can bring you the best 30 to 50 pieces the next morning. This process takes anywhere between four and five hours a day, as well as additional related costs. Over the last year, I’ve been actively seeking funding through sponsors, advertising, and readers like you. Unfortunately, I’ve been unable to generate enough funding to sustain this service with that model, given the time and costs associated.

I know that a lot of you really appreciate the service from reporters to advocates to professors to professionals. I myself also enjoy aggregating news and information to help keep folks updated on what is going on each day. That’s why I want to keep the service going.

But to make this possible, I’ve decided to transition The Direct Transfer Daily from an unpaid service to a subscription service. This was a very difficult decision that I’ve been struggling with it for a while now but I hope that you all understand why.

If you wish to support the continuation of this service, please take some time to look through the subscription options above.

Thank you all again for reading and supporting The Direct Transfer Daily. It is a pleasure to be a part of an amazing group of colleagues and I hope I can continue to bring you the news and information that helps you make cities better for everyone.

If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to contact me.

Thank you so much.

Cheers

Jeff
